Julius F. (Dooley) Houghtaling, Florida Citrus Grower in the 1960’s, planted the original Dooley Groves on Stephens Road in Sun City, Florida with Tangelos, Temples, Tangerines, Grapefruit and other varieties. Mrs Edith Houghtaling worked hard to provide good fresh citrus to friends and family. From these humble beginnings, Dooley Groves was born. Grandma Dooley started sharing her delicious fruit with neighbors and friends in the 1960’s. She built the business the “old fashioned” way… family-run, turning customers into friends, and supplying the BEST citrus in the world for three generations. In the mid-1970’s, Julius and Edith’s son and daughter-in-law got involved with the farm and they brought their then 17 year old son, Mike, to help “Granddad” out on the farm. Mike learned to grow citrus at the hand of his Granddad and the “business” part of the business from his father. 54 years later, Mike is 3rd generation Florida Citrus Grower at Dooley Groves and is now the premier citrus grower and expert, out-standing in his field! We call him the “Honeybell King”!
